The Piping Quartet Competition at Huntly on Saturday 17th March provided an ideal opportunity for Grampian Police Scotland Pipe Band to afford their revamped Pipe Corps some much needed exposure in the competition arena.  The Band entered 3 Quartets in the Grade 1 and Grade 2 Competitions.  With the considerable close season changes to the Pipe Corps in mind, it proved to be a beneficial outing. The Band’s Quartets were well placed in both Grades, the attached photograph shows 10 of the Pipers who represented the Band at Huntly with their trophy haul.

Following the Huntly Competition, Pipe Major Pamela Whyte said, “The entire Band worked extremely hard last season and as a consequence significant progress was achieved.  Throughout, we produced solid competition performances and enjoyed several good results.  These included two top six placings at Major Competitions, the Band has not attained like results for several years.  Everyone in the Band are determined to build upon these encouraging results and have been back in the practice hall since mid-September.  Introducing fresh blood to the Band has raised everyone’s enthusiasm to a new level which is hugely encouraging. We have also spent a lot of time refining our pipes and sound.  I am very pleased with how everyone performed today, we have all learned a lot which will positively contribute to the Band’s development”.

At the conclusion of the 2017 Competition Season, Pamela Whyte embarked upon a recruitment drive, seeking high quality additions for the Pipe Corps. Pam’s efforts have resulted in the arrival of 5 new faces, with a few more in the pipeline.
