DSC04757Brian Newlands, G4S Secure Solutions Regional Manager for Scotland, has been a long term admirer of the Grampian Police Scotland Pipe Band and over time has enjoyed listening to a number of their performances.

Brian said, “I was originally made aware of the Band through business associates Iain McCombie and Magnus Mowat and had always been interested in supporting if possible.  The opportunity never really presented itself until tragedy struck with the sudden and untimely passing of Magnus earlier this year.  I attended Magnus’s Memorial Service which was held at St. Mark’s Church, Aberdeen.  The Band played during the Service and it was indeed an emotional occasion.  In the past, I was always struck by the passion and pride that Magnus expressed when discussing the Band and I knew then that G4S had to support the Band in a way fitting to Magnus”.

This was the catalyst for G4S Secure Solutions becoming an associate of the Band and financing the purchase of a bale of the unique Grampian Police Tartan for future use.

Brian continued, “Magnus was always very complementary about the high standard of uniform appearance when G4S staff presented themselves for duty.  Therefore when the opportunity to purchase a bale of tartan for the Band was presented to G4S, we thought it would be an extremely appropriate way to both support the Band and remember Magnus.  G4S are fully aware of how highly regarded the Band is, particularly within the North East of Scotland where their performances form an integral part of the local musical heritage.  G4S wish the band every future success”.

DSC04758The unique ‘Grampian Police Tartan’ contributes greatly to the Band’s ever smart appearance and the new bale of Tartan will help maintain this standing and ensure sufficient material is available as and when new kilts are required. Band Manager Alex Simpson commented, “Our stock of Band Tartan was running rather low and with several new Members joining the Band, the G4S provision of funds to purchase a new bale of Tartan is indeed timely.  It goes without saying that this generous gesture from G4S, in memory of Magnus who was a true Band stalwart,  is greatly appreciated by all Members of Grampian Police Scotland Pipe Band”.

Photographed along with the new Bale of Tartan are; Brian Newlands, Alex Simpson and Side Drummer Elaine Gibson, the kilt she is wearing is made from the Grampian Police Tartan.  Elaine also has responsibility for maintaining the Band’s entire uniform stock.
