Following an extended absence of 15 years, Friday, 10th March, 2017, will see Grampian Police Scotland Pipe Band return to the Parade Square at Scottish Police College, Tulliallan Castle, Kincardine.

On that day, the Band will provide the music throughout a Passing Out Parade for over 150 new Police Scotland Constables.  38 of these Officers are destined to serve within the north east of Scotland hence, it is most appropriate the Pipe Band for this Parade should be Grampian Police Scotland.

When the Scottish Police College invited the Band to perform at the Passing Out Parade the only uncertainty was the number of players who would be available for the event. All such concerns dissipated when no less than 20 Band Members quickly made arrangements to be ‘on parade’ at this very important Police event.  In addition to the 150 new Police Officers, there will be a large audience of relatives and friends, numbering in the region of 1000.

Passing Out Parades at Scottish Police College are always memorable days for everyone involved.  It will indeed be an exciting and challenging day for the Pipe Band Members as they will be the focus of attention throughout the entire proceedings.

For two of the Band Members the Parade will be particularly special for very different reasons:

  • Roland Stuart, the Band’s new Drum Major, will lead the Band for the first time at a public event. Roland’s vast experience as Lead Drum Major at the Braemar Gathering will undoubtedly stand him in good stead for this high profile event.
  • The Parade will be extremely poignant for Angela Hague who recently joined the Band and is an experienced Bass Drummer. Angela’s late father, Irvine Chalmers, was a Grampian Police Sergeant who sadly died in 2003 whilst still in service. Irvine’s Scottish Police College Passing Out Parade was during late 1979. Angela will play the Bass Drum on 10th March, 38 years after her late father marched on the very same Parade Square. The entire Band will undoubtedly be supporting Angela throughout the Parade.
